Once an exclusive domain of large corporate networks, electronic mail or email has now become part of our everyday lives. This new technology has revolutionized message delivery in such a way that we now just need seconds to send and receive messages as compared to days or weeks when using traditional postal mail.

Vendors of cloud-based backup email services use their own servers to temporarily store incoming email messages destined for a client company if the client company’s email server is out of service. The emails will be stored in queue temporarily in the vendor’s email servers. As soon as the client’s email server is restored, the emails are automatically delivered to the server. This service serves as a backup and storage server without the client company needing to setup its own secondary server. This setup saves on cost in buying another server and providing for its maintenance.
Vendors of this type of service provide not only a backup system but also provide selectable features such as different storage sizes for different volumes of expected email connections, anti-spamming, and email sender verification.
Email redundancy can be achieved by a simple secondary email account to enable communication within and outside the company. Another way is a cloud-based service which stores temporarily all incoming emails for safekeeping until the primary server is back online.
